Photoshoot Spotlight: FoodBank Bali

Behind the scenes details of a professional photography photoshoot. A session with Samanta Katz Photography Business Blog: Learn how to market, sell, find clients, and start or grow your photography business.

Client: Foodbank Bali

Industry: Non-profit/humanitarian

Shoot purpose: I reached out to the organization because I wanted to help their cause. During Covid-19 a lot of local families were going through a hard time. Bali mainly depends on tourism as with the borders closed, many locals were suffering. I often find that donating time and resources can be a better way to create impact than just money.

Concept: FoodBank goes out once a week to deliver food hampers to families in different areas. We thought it would be a good idea for me to join them "at work" so I could capture the beautiful people of Bali, as well as the organization in action. We captured some video footage and I created two ad films for them as well.

On our food delivery day we also visited a family that lives inside one of the biggest garbage dumps in the area. They work as a recycling organization, where they receive bags of plastic (and coconut leftovers) and manually sort through the bags to separate them from waste. It was quite fascinating to see them at work, and a bit heartbreaking to see the conditions in which they live and work in. It's hard not to think how a little bit of financial support could make a huge difference.

If you want to support this amazing organization, you can make a donation at https://foodbank.co.

How I got the gig: Rather than how I got the gig (I simply reached out to them to volunteer my services) it is interesting to mention that a paid gig came out of this relationship a few months later.
